We conducted hot working characteristics of 321 and 304 steels. It was found that 321 steel is softer than 304 steel. The results provide a better way to schedule the two steels. The differences came from delta ferrite and from free nitrogen and carbon. The activation energy for 321 and 304 are 465 kJ/mol and 446 kJ/mol respectively.
